Cinder by Marissa Meyer Review

BY: Marissa Meyer

Review by: Zairra DC

Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl.

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

So I wasn't really very keen on reading this book because of all the "forbidden attraction" and the whole cyborg thing going on. But wow, when I gave this book a shot,I seriously started doubting my judgement.

Cinder was amazing. Of course, it being a futuristic retelling of Cinderella (Shocking?!?) there were some very expected parts, but Marissa Meyer stitched in her own story to give more twists and thrills to the story that made it a very exciting read!

I loved the characters from our gifted heroine, Cinder to our vindictive villainess, Queen Levana, and found the names Marissa Meyer picked really clever! (Kai???)

Marissa Meyer's take on the future was also very creative but I guess I would have wanted more depth into their world :)

So there's not really much I can say that isn't a spoiler or wasn't already in the synopsis but to sum it up:
Cinder was such a fantastic read and a wonderful retelling of Cinderella. I recommend it to lovers of retellings or even just readers who are looking for a fun read!

PS. I'm already halfway through Scarlet but somehow, I still find Cinder better, in my opinion. :) Happy reading!
